After the beginning of the millennium, web pages on platforms such as LiveJournal began to emerge with a focus on everyday fashion as worn by the creator of the page, as wellas offering personal insights and opinions about fashion culture. While the concept of the fashion blogger is far from new, time has certainly proven that these internet-savvy fashionistas are here fir the long haul, writes Sandy Hong.
While most blogs begin as hobbies, some reach dizzying heights of fame and turn into full-time careers. Not only are fashion bloggers filling the front row at Fashion Week, but they're also gracing the covers of popular magazines, becoming the faces of global brands, starring in ad campaigns and scoring publishing deals.
The 25-year-old blogger from Malaysia began her blog in February 2008, motivated by her love ofclothes. Since then, her blog and unique sense of style had gained overwhelmingly positive attention from numerous publications such as Teen Vogue, MTV Style, Vogue Girl Korea, Elle and German Vogue (just to name a few). When asked about the awesome opportunities blogging had opened up for her, Sandy states. "I think two of my favourite recent opportunities were getting my home features in Teen Vogue, and assorted brands like Marc Jacobs, Victoria, BCBG, Gucci, Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton and more list out etc".
When it comes down to just one important piece of advice for aspiring fashion bloggers, however, Sandy highlights the importance of good quality images, and even recommends that bloggers "take a photo course, or make sure you have a photographer who can take pretty pictures''. What most may not believe is exactly how much hard work goes into running a blog with fashion bloggers spending hours every day having to keep up-to-date with other websites and publications, as well as creating multiple posts in order to maintain thier audience's interest.
